ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mary Stevenson, Artist

My name is Mary Stevenson and I am an artist living and working in Stirling, Scotland. Welcome to my website, I hope you enjoy looking at my artwork !

I studied painting under Jamie Hardie at Aberdeen College of Education and continued to paint even after marriage, until family commitments intervened. During this early time I exhibited in Kinross, Dunkeld and had work accepted for the Scottish Society of Women Artists’ exhibition in Edinburgh. While bringing up the family I took a B.A. degree with the Open University which included Art History. When we moved to Stirling I was able to take up painting again, around 1992 and have since exhibited extensively in the Central Region with Central Arts, Stirling Art Club, and local galleries in Oban, Aberfeldy, Stirling, Drymen, Crieff, Glasgow and Helensburgh.

I draw my inspiration mainly from Scotland and am especially fond of water, but like to experiment with different ways of putting paint to canvas – which is one reason why my style can vary so much! I do, however, have a real love of colour, so my paintings tend to be bright, perhaps unexpectedly so. I have visited many of the islands of Scotland as well as the West Coast, and have other paintings available of these areas. The islands I have visited are Lewis, Harris, Barra, The Uists, Tiree, Islay, Skye and Raasay. I have yet to visit Mull!

Prices vary according to frame, but are within the £175- £350 bracket and carriage is according to courier. Please email if you are interested in any paintings and I shall get back to you shortly. Thank you for looking!
